I ummed and arrgghhed about putting out this weeks Trail Snacks.
I felt pretty meh and uninspired by the week. I wasn’t sure if it was the contents fault or my own.
As I aimlessly scrolled Substack for my mojo (which I consider to be slightly less useless to scrolling TikTok), I came across this piece by Ernesto Burden.
He hit the nail on the head, this week, my brain was fried and Trail Snacks was about to be the thing to get the boot.
Work was hectic, I managed go get some training in (although not as I had planned or would like) and I just felt very brain fried.
So whilst a little abridged, and a little less enthusiastic as normal, here are some of the gems that floated across my screen.

The most popular posts on my own blog (not so subtle plug for melmacruns.com) are the race recaps. I can only assume it’s people looking to choose their next adventure, not so much about their deep investment in how many times I sat on a rock and cried! Ultra Uncovered is a relatively new podcast that seems to be about highlighting US races. I think it would work better as a YouTube channel where you can insert clips of the terrain and aidstations, maybe a map or elevation profile etc. They have them set up as video episodes on Spotify but with the ones I’ve watched they seem to just be the two guests talking. It’s a cool idea that I’m interested to see how it progresses.
With Ultra Trail Australia (UTA) (by UTMB) coming up this weekend, the lads at Dirt Church went through the elite field and previewed the race. I would love to see more of this content in the Aus/Nz space. Maybe one day we’ll get a guernsey at Fantasy Free Trail. Our athletes deserve the recognition. This is a must listen for UTA virgins heading into the Blue Mountains this weekend with some real nuggets and knowledge bombs from SquadRun coaches Kerry and Ali.
Katie Schide was the guest over on the Trail Society podcast. I love Katie would love to hear from here more often. There’s a few nuggets in this conversation but it did feel a little surface level.
The gram was pretty boring, but I was fun to follow Cocodona 250 this week, what a bizarre event! Not for me, but the stories they highlighted were great.
Follow of the week: Aid Station Fireball!
Anyone still using Twitter or just when there is a race on? We’ll head over and give Liam a follow. Any race and athlete stats you hear on a livestream is probably from Liam. Who knows, following him may improve your Fantasy Free Trail picks but results are not guaranteed!
Well we survived. Hit me up if you find something fun this week, as I’m pretty sure my feed is all Taylor and post Transvulcania thank you posts (I hate these posts FYI, almost as much as I hate the “I got paid to post about this shoe/greens powder/blood test” post each month). So as always, enjoy your rest day brags and I’ll see you all next week.
Happy recovery
